Winters are long here in the midwest. Sometimes our springs feel more like winters too! That’s why, when the weather finally blesses us with warm temps and gentle breezes, you want to be able to spend those days enjoying the outdoors. So, if you live in apartment that has a back porch, now is the time to spruce it up so you can appreciate the great outdoors simply by going out your own back door.
The key to a well designed space is to make sure to not to overcrowd the area.
Decide if you would prefer to lounge, dine or entertain on your porch.
Measure the footprint of your porch.
Now it is time to purchase some pieces that suit how you plan on utilizing the space. Items to 
consider: an outdoor rug, bistro or cafe table and chairs, mirror, art, lounge, bench or comfy outdoor chair.
Add some color!
If your balcony has a southern exposure you may want to consider outdoor curtain or shades to block the sun.
Don’t forget to include plantings – a garden will enhance the outdoor experience as well as providing a little aroma therapy while you lounge, dine or entertain.
Lighting – a string of Christmas lights can be an inexpensive way to light up your porch, solar lighting or consider battery operated candles to set the mood – just avoid using real candles – they melt in the heat and are a real fire hazard on a wood porch.
