Did you know that simply 4 blocks East of Oak Park’s Austin Boulevard at Lake Street and Waller there lies what looks like a goat farm?
After some quick googling OakParkApartments.com learned that these goats, 6 in all, are pets! It seems that the city of Chicago has no ordinances on the books prohibiting goats as pets so the owner of these goats keeps them overnight in her garage and then walks them to an open lot, where she has gotten the owners approval, and the goats graze and such during the day.
Oak Park’s ordinances unfortunately prohibit goats for any of you Oak Parkers who might be getting some goat owning urges after seeing this blog/video. Also on the animal no fly zone for Oak Park are pigs, swine, sheep, cattle, horses, naturally wild animals (except fish and birds) – though Oak Park does allow chickens (2 max!).
What a great way to introduce urban farming into the Austin neighborhood!
