Earth Day began in 1970 and opened discussions over growing environmental concerns. Yet, here we are, 48 years later and the debate continues while worries about our Earth grow stronger.
Personal responsibility can go a long way towards impacting our planet. There are many ways communities, companies and individuals can do their part to improve their eco footprint and help the world.
The Village of Oak Park
Oak Park is an environmentally proactive community to be proud of. Over the years they have added and adapted multiple recycling opportunities and options for residents. Curbside recycling, composting, special recycling services, free reusable shopping bags, Earth Day events and the Keep Oak Park Beautiful (KOPB) Program are just a few ways Oak Park strives to protect and preserve our corner of the world.
Oak Park Apartments
Oak Park Apartments mission is to not only preserve and restore our properties but to provide quality, affordable housing for years to come and to make those properties greener too. Over the thirty years OPA has been in business we’ve added and upgraded building insulation; installed energy efficient windows and appliances; switched toilets, showerheads and faucets to water saving models; updated heating and cooling systems; computerized heating systems for efficiency and added energy saving CFL and LED lighting to all of our properties.
You may feel overwhelmed about what you can do to help the environment. One of the easiest and most impactful ways to take personal responsibility for our Earth is to commit to using reusable bags when you go shopping. This one simple change will cut down on the amount of plastic and paper bags produced and then thrown away. There are five trillion single-use bags made every year, used for, on average, 20 minutes then thrown away only to sit for up to 1,000 years in a landfill, leaching chemicals into the Earth. By changing your behaviors you can make a very real difference.
