Oak Park Apartments Presents Checks to Animal Care League in 25th Anniversary Charity Giveaway Celebration
Oak Park's largest renter of apartments gives away $2,025 to each of six charities that received the most votes in a monthly online contest
Oak Park, Illinois, October 19, 2011—At Oak Park Apartments, community has mattered for 25 years. Since founding what is now the Oak Park area's largest apartment rental operation in 1986, brothers Bill and Bob Planek have worked to make Oak Park a better place.
To celebrate the company's anniversary, the Planek's decided to give away $2,025 each month to six charities. And to build community and promote awareness of the charities, Oak Park Apartments developed an online process enabling community members to vote for their own charities.
After six months and over ten thousand votes cast, the winners are in and each has been presented a check. The Animal Care League received the most votes in September.
In total, 30 organizations received votes over six months. The winning six were:
Hephzibah Children's Association

"We wanted to give our tenants and the rest of the community a voice to decide which charities we support," said Oak Park Apartments' Bill Planek. "We loved seeing people get behind their favorite causes and the organizations themselves rallying their supporters. It's a new way to engage people in community."
Says co-founder Bob Planek: "Twenty-five years ago when we started Oak Park Apartments, we did not imagine we would become the largest renter of apartments in Oak Park and Forest Park, in addition to managing many local condominium associations. It's been a great ride and we're grateful to be able to give back to the community."
